Past PTSA-Supported Activities

Yes, we know we ask for money. But there are good reasons for it! Here are just some of the activities sponsored by the PTSA. Your membership dues help to pay for a small number of these activities, while the rest of the costs are raised through fundraisers like restaurant nights, book fairs, catalog sales, and good old fashioned donations. Yes, we will always welcome your money ... and as you can see, we put it to good use!

Boys' Leadership Conference

A group of about 20-25 boys, selected by the administration, are proud participants at a 3-day retreat in the spring in Western Maryland. While at the retreat, the boys learn valuable lessons in leadership that they will bring back with them, and put to use at Parkland and in their community. These leadership lessons continue at various times during the school year to maximize their impact.

This retreat has been a tradition at Parkland for several years and has proven to be invaluable in its return on investment for the students impacted by this remarkable program. Thus, the PTSA continues to support this program.

Girls' Leadership Conference

Due in large part, to the success of the Boys' Leadership Program, the opportunity was extended to girls during the 2014-2015 school year.  A group of 20-25 girls were chosen by the administration to participate in the three-day retreat held in Southern Maryland in September to help them discover their untapped leadership potential.  Through this program, these young ladies bring back with them skills to be leaders among their peers at Parkland and in their community.  Once back at school, they receive support throughout the school year to maintain their leadership skills.

The girls' retreat has promoted a positive environment for our future female leaders, and thus has earned the continued PTSA support.

International Night

The performances are wonderful! The food is amazing! And the atmosphere, unbeatable! International Night is truly an evening you have to experience to appreciate. A number of Parkland students, parents and staff put on quite a show! And the talent abounds at Parkland, with singers, dancers, musicians, poets and more, all showcasing their talents.

Do you have a talent you'd like to share at this event? Reach out to the school and let them know. Or perhaps your talent shines in the kitchen. You too can take part by sharing one of your culinary masterpieces.

Come join the festivities and share in the rich, diverse culture that is Parkland!

Medieval Faire

This event is one that nearly all 7th graders enjoy! It's something the 6th graders look forward to, and what the 8th graders recall with fondness.

The staff dress up in themed costumes, and transform parts of the school into a medieval building, complete with dungeon! Fun is had by all participants.

This program is partially funded by the PTSA and is made possible by generosity of the Parkland community through donations, fundraisers and membership in the PTSA. Thank you for your support!

Reptile & Endangered Species Day

This event is one that nearly all 7th graders enjoy!  It's something the 6th graders look forward to, and what the 8th graders recall with fondness.

Dr. Cohen typically arranges for a few reptiles and small endangered creatures to come to Parkland for the day!  In an effort to keep the creatures calm, small groups sign up for the exhibit, which gives each interested student an opportunity to interact with these creatures ... while supervised, of course!

This program is funded entirely by the PTSA and is made possible by generosity of the Parkland community through donations, fundraisers and PTSA membership.
